Are You A Runner?

I recently had a pedicure, one of my favorite mommy splurges. After dipping my feet into the warm whirlpool, and lifting them up again, the nail technician asked me, "Are you a runner?" I was shocked, how did she know?

She went on to explained that long distance runners' feet have certain characteristics...shorter nails and rough, dry skin around the tops of the toes from repeatedly rubbing against the shoes. Who knew that by simply looking at my feet, she could identify a part of my life?

This encounter got me thinking. Can people look at my life and know that I am a Christ-follower?

1 Timothy 4:8 says, "For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come."

My life should be marked by godliness. People should be able to look at me and see something different from the world around them.

Just like I have changed things in my life to train for my upcoming half marathon, I should change things in my life to reflect my Savior.  Just like I commit to training my body, I should commit to training my heart and mind toward godliness.

"Do you not know that in a race all runners run, but only one gets the prize? Everyone who competes in the game goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crow that lasts forever."
1 Corinthians 9:24-25

I want THAT prize! Do you?
