It's official...I am a soccer mom. And I'm thrilled! I dreamed about the day when Caden would be old enough to play a sport. I dreamed of little people running around a ball with really no idea what they were doing. It's just so cute!
And Saturday, that dream became a reality.
I'm not sure who was more excited, me or Caden, but it was very exciting. We are playing with a league called i9 Sports, which hosts all it practices and games on Saturdays. They also focus on a character trait each week and reward those who most eximplify that characteristic during the game (another reason we chose i9).
Since the league is still small and the kids are as well, we practiced with the team we played.
Once the game started and Caden had been on the field for a while, we noticed that Caden wasn't going after the ball. Instead, he was either watching himself run via his shadow or just following the crowd. The only time he actually kicked the ball was when he kicked it in. We noticed he would let the ball go past him and another kid would kick it. It was interesting to see how both our competitive natures came out. We were yelling at him to go for the ball, even frustrated a few times when he just watched it roll by. No, we weren't
those parents but I noticed something in myself that I had to check.
After the game, our coach rounded everyone up. Coach Ember talked again about taking turns and sharing the ball (that week's theme). She went on to explain that one player kept reminding her on the field about who had not had a turn yet and how proud she was of this player. She then said that this week's sportsmanship award went to our Caden!
I'm not sure how it happens but I learn more from Caden than I believe I'm teaching him. He was being thoughtful on the field, more concerned with his teammates having their turn than kicking the ball himself. Now, if we could just apply this at home with our sister!
I am so proud to call Caden my son.
And here is our soccer player in training...
Just a few more because they are so cute...
